Undergraduate Research, Scholarship, & Creative Activities (URSCA)

Purpose

The Committee seeks to establish and support a culture that values student and faculty participation in undergraduate research, scholarship, and creative activities.  The Committee also serves as a coordinating body for the research, scholarship, and creative arts activities at Mount Saint Mary College.

Responsibilities

  1. Encourages and promotes participation in scholarly and creative activities on campus.
  2. Identifies mechanisms for recognizing research, scholarly and creative accomplishments for both faculty and students.
  3. Educates the campus community about what constitutes scholarly and creative pursuits and how these activities benefit our students and the College.
  4. Assists in overseeing the Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) program.

 a.  Reviews and approves the SURE budget annually, prior to submission.

  5. Reviews applications for and grants Student Research Scholarship Awards annually.

  6. Facilitates organization of a campus-wide day of scholarship and creativity.

  7. Collaborates and consults regularly with the following individuals/groups:

 a. Institutional Review Board

 b. iROC Coordinators

             c. Honors Program Director

   8. Collaborates with Marketing and Admissions offices to communicate updated information on scholarship and

        creative arts activities for use in promotional and recruitment materials.
