Committees Upon Which Faculty Serve
The various committees essential for conducting the work of the College shall be established by the faculty. There are committees that are part of the faculty slate and are populated by the Committee on Committees each year, other committees that are volunteer, and others that have been standing committees at some point in time but are not needed every year. This last category of committees can be reinstated on an as-needed basis by a majority vote of the Faculty Senate.
The following is a list of the faculty committees of each type:

It is expected that all faculty will participate in faculty governance through the governance committees, particularly after their first year of employment. Committee service requires attendance at meetings and active participation in committee activities.
In addition to the standing governance committees, there are other committees (standing, volunteer, and ad hoc) on which faculty may serve. Membership on such committees is considered part of a faculty member’s overall service contributions. College committees to which faculty are elected are the Strategic Planning and Budgeting Committee (SPBC) and the Mount Assessment Committee (MAC).
Faculty who have been granted a sabbatical have no obligation to serve on a committee or to complete a multiple-year committee term. They will not be assigned to a committee during their sabbatical year. However, if a faculty member is serving a multi-year term and wishes to continue to serve on the committee while on sabbatical, they have the right to do so. Faculty on such a multi-year term, must notify their Chairperson and the Committee on Committees of their intentions. Faculty have an obligation to sign up for committee service for the year following their leave.
Committees are expected to meet monthly, or no fewer than three times, during each Fall and Spring semester, unless specified in the committee description. Committee meetings are held face-to-face. On occasion, a committee member may participate in a meeting by phone or other synchronous electronic means. A limited amount of committee business may be conducted electronically between meetings.
