Academic Technology Advancement Committee (ATAC)

Purpose

The Academic Technology Advancement Committee (ATAC) continually advances the academic technological capabilities of MSMC in support of academic excellence in teaching, learning, scholarship, and academic information exchange in order to reflect the ever-changing state of the art by adopting the most institutionally appropriate technologies.

Responsibilities

  1. Evaluation: To review and make recommendations regarding the status, quality and effectiveness of technological support for learning, instruction, and scholarship at the College in light of alternatives.
  2. Opportunity Monitoring: To help monitor developments in the academic technology fields that may have application at MSMC and to carry out necessary steps to evaluate and consider the advantages, costs and adverse consequences of their adoption.
  3. Planning and Implementation: To participate in the development of policies, plans, and implementation of technologies, including review and recommendation of short and long range academic technology vision, plans, and priorities.
  4. Dissemination of Innovations: To infuse academic technologies throughout faculty practice using professional development opportunities that invite, guide and support adoption of emergent technologies to enhance learning and teaching.
  5. Distance Learning: To serve as the advisory committee for distance education and make recommendations regarding the status, quality and effectiveness of technological support for distance learning and instruction.
  6. Budgeting: To review and make recommendations regarding academic strategic funding requests and provision of funding to promote funding for faculty development activities related to teaching with technology.
  7. Accountability: To submit an annual report to the Senate on the accomplishments of the committee.

Membership

Up to five faculty members, two students (designated by VP for Student Affairs – non-voting). Ex officio members: VP for Academic Affairs, Chief Information Officer, and Director of Digital Learning and Instructional Design Services.

Terms of Office for Faculty (subject to term limits)

No more than two two-year memberships

No more than three three-year memberships
