First Year Writing Coordinator (FYWC)
Reports to: Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs
Course release/teaching load: One course release per semester; 18 credits regular load per academic year (fall and spring semesters). Unless negotiated otherwise, the regular load is spread equally over both semesters (e.g., 3 courses per semester)
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Trains and staffs first year writing course instructors, including staffing with adjuncts.
- Develops, implements and assesses the first year writing curriculum, programs, services and activities, which support and promote first year writing.
- Leads innovation in first year writing.
- Works with Admissions and FYE Director on writing placement.
- Works with faculty, registrar, and FYE to schedule appropriately timed courses for the students.
- Implements faculty development as it relates to first year writing.
- Submits a progress report every year to AVPAA office including goals for the following year.
- Mentors the next coordinator.
