Graduate Coordinator (Division of Education, Schools of Nursing and Business)
Reports to: Division Chair or School Dean
Course release/teaching load: Graduate Coordinators receive at least one (maximum two) course release per semester or equivalent compensation, but not both at the same time. Release or compensation is negotiated with the VPAA in consultation with the Division Chair or School Dean and may include course-equivalent compensation during summer sessions.
Faculty interested in serving in the Graduate Coordinator role should communicate their interest to their Department Chair or Division/School Dean. Appointments are one-year renewable and will be made by the VPAA.
Key Responsibilities:
Admissions
- Assists the Office of Admissions in recruitment of new students.
- Arranges for and conducts graduate admissions interviews.
- Evaluates admissions qualifications of applicants and makes recommendations about the admissions status of each candidate.
- Works directly with the Office of Admissions to process graduate information as it arrives, such as applications, fees, transcripts, transfer credits and waivers.
Communications
- Acts as a source of information for students regarding graduate programs and their respective requirements, courses and certifications.
- Keeps graduate students informed regarding graduation requirements and important dates and events (e.g., advisement and registration periods, resume and interview workshops, and course withdrawal deadlines).
- Acts as a liaison between graduate students and the Office of the Registrar (e.g., registrations, add/drops).
- Prepares and distributes newsletter and registration information to students.
- Acts as a liaison between graduate students and faculty/advisors, providing information, scheduling appointments, etc.
Supervision
- Organizes the administration and scoring of comprehensive examinations related to the major field of study.
- Maintains and updates graduate files.
- Notifies graduate students regarding completion of program, academic status, progress in program, etc.
- Processes certification applications to be sent to the appropriate New York State division or department.
- Maintains accuracy of their respective graduate division material in the graduate catalog.
Administration
- Assists the Division Chair and/or School Dean with course projections, staffing, catalog revisions and annual reports.
- Assumes, from time to time, other duties that may be assigned by Division Chair or School Dean.
