Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs (AVPAA)
Reports to: Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA)
The Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs (AVPAA) reports directly to the Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA) in assisting and providing guidance and leadership to the academic community. The position may be appointed as a result of an internal or external search. Terms and conditions of this appointment, including faculty status and rank, are determined by the VPAA and, if necessary, the College’s Promotion and Tenure Committee.
Qualifications required for appointment to this position include an earned doctorate in a discipline represented in one of the College’s Schools or Divisions, significant prior academic experience as a faculty member at an accredited four-year institution, and demonstrated experience in academic administration. Other qualifications or requirements may be determined by the VPAA, President and/or search committee.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Provides oversight and direction to the following areas of direct report: Career Center, Writing Center, Digital Learning and Instructional Design Services, First Year Experience, Honors Program, Teaching/Learning, Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP), First Year Writing program, Faculty Research and Creativity.
- Collaborates on academic assessment with the VPAA, Office of Institutional Research, and the faculty to conduct program reviews and accreditation reports on a regular basis.
- Oversees full and part time faculty orientation and professional development program initiatives.
- Ensures that part time faculty are provided with opportunities and resources to become engaged in the life of the College.
- Monitors budget allocations for institutional personnel. .
- Monitors course projections and scheduling for all course offerings, including the First Year Experience.
- Supports the planning for and production of academic celebrations (e.g., Convocation, Celebration of Scholars, Honor Society Inductions, etc.), and works to achieve full campus engagement in these events.
- Addresses concerns raised by faculty, parents and students involving academic issues.
- Serves on committees, as specified in the Faculty Handbook or as determined by the VPAA.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the VPAA.
