ED 5525 TRANSITIONING INTO FLUENT READERS AND WRITERS
This course focuses on current education research on children’s literacy development as they move from attending to individual words to becoming more fluent readers and writers who gain enjoyment and meaning from reading and writing text (usually in 2nd through 6th grade). Keeping motivation and engagement at the forefront, Master Teacher Candidates will learn assessments and evidence-based strategies to support all learners as they develop phonics and morpheme knowledge for word identification, spelling, and vocabulary, fluency, comprehension, and effective writing skills and strategies. Master Teacher Candidates will also learn how to communicate learners’ strengths, needs, and growth to families, other caregivers, and school personnel. Fieldwork is required.
