ED 5025 EDUCATIONAL LINGUISTICS & TESOL

This course focuses on applying theories of linguistics and second language acquisition to the teaching of bi- and multilingual learners, with the purpose of identifying equitable and culturally responsive approaches to new language instruction. Topics include: concepts, theories, research, and practices relevant to language acquisition and development; theories of bi- and multilingualism and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL); the sociopolitical underpinnings and embedded power structures of named languages, and implications for all teachers of bi- and multilingual learners.
