ED 5376 TEACHING WITH TECHNOLOGY AND GAMING

This course offers a comprehensive exploration of games as powerful tools for learning, integrating insights from education, psychology, communication, and game studies. Students will examine the history of gaming, current research on gameplay and player behavior, and how scholars across disciplines conceptualize the relationship between learning and play. We will also engage with critical topics such as gender, ethnicity, and culture, which play a significant role in discussions about the societal impact of games.

A central focus of the course will be on leveraging technology to enhance teaching and learning. Students will explore digital tools and platforms for game-based learning, including simulations, virtual reality, and online collaborative environments. By the end of the course, students will design and present a developmentally appropriate game-based learning experience and/or develop and market their own educational game prototype using available technology resources. Students are prohibited from receiving credit for this course and ED/GAM 3140 Game Based Learning.
