ED 5075 METHODS OF TESOL

This course focuses on methods and materials for teaching English Language Learners (ELL) within English Second Language (ESL), bilingual, and general education classrooms.  Program models, methodologies, and strategies that are appropriate for the ELLs will be discussed and presented.  Methods of teaching listening, speaking, reading, and writing will be presented along with methods of integrating the teaching of language and academic content. Sheltering and scaffolding instruction will also be emphasized. The roles of culture and making meaningful connections to families will be explored.  Methods for activating and integrating students’ home language and cultural assets in the curriculum will be studied and practiced.
