REL 3000 THEOLOGY OF BEAUTY
The study of the transcendentals of truth, goodness, and beauty often oddly neglects the study of or knowledge about God as Beauty. This course offers insights into the question of “Does Beauty Matter?” with an in-depth study of the various philosophical theories and theological beliefs surrounding beauty. Examining Aquinas’ foundational works in aesthetics and medieval scholasticism, this course encompasses a study of the qualities and everyday functions of beauty pre- and post-scholasticism, to modern day.
Prerequisite
Students in the major should have completed the foundational REL courses: 1011, 1300, 1050, 2010.
