Office of Student Success

The Office of Student Success (OSS) offers proactive and student-centered support for all MSMC students. The holistic and developmental approach of the OSS staff supports the academic and interpersonal development of students as they progress through their college career.

ACADEMIC COACHING/ADVISING

All incoming first-year students are assigned an Academic Coach, who is a Masters-level professional and is focused on supporting students as they transition from high school to college. The academic coaches work individually with students to help them develop skills that are integral to academic success, including, but not limited to: time management, study strategies, goal-setting, organization and familiarity with campus resources. The academic coaches additionally serve as academic advisors to transfer Nursing students and students within the Interdisciplinary and Undeclared majors. As academic advisors, they assist students in degree mapping and selecting courses for the following semester(s).

TUTORING SERVICES

Individual and small group tutoring is available to all MSMC undergraduate students free of charge in most major subject areas. MSMC tutors are current students who are highly recommended by college faculty and have received an “A” in the course content. Evidence shows that students who utilize Tutoring Services at MSMC have an easier time learning and understanding their material, which contributes directly to a student’s academic success.

When a peer tutor is not available, all students additionally have access to a 24/7 online virtual professional tutoring platform called Thinking Storm. Students can easily sign up for a Thinking Storm appointment by visiting the Tutoring Services webpage on the MSMC Portal or by emailing tutoring@msmc.edu.
