Documentation of Service Activities (also pertains to Library Faculty)
This section of the portfolio elaborates on the candidate’s service contribution to the college and the students, to one’s profession, and to the community.
- Service to the College: Service to the College is categorized into divisional and college-wide service. The activities included under each described the individual and group activities in which the candidate has been involved. These include service on committees, task forces, division projects, and administrative activities. Typical administrative assignments may include directorships, coordinator roles, and advisory positions. Documentation can include authored reports as well as support letters.
- Service to Students: Service to students includes activities outside the classroom such as advising student clubs and organizations, mentoring students, sponsoring trips and enrichment programs, and organizing student events.
- Professional Service: This portion of the portfolio describes the faculty candidate’s involvement in professional organizations to which they belong, leadership appointments to professional organizations and committees, recognition for special professional accomplishments, and consultancies to groups requiring the candidate’s special expertise. Documentation may include one or two letters solicited by the faculty candidate that describes their professional service contributions.
- Community Service: The description of contributions of the faculty candidate to individuals and groups in the community (local, regional, state, etc.) are included in this section. Letters or other written documentation (e.g., newspaper articles) describing the faculty candidate’s involvement and contribution may be included.
PROVISO: Faculty candidates’ portfolios are NOT LIMITED to the documentation recommended in the foregoing. Candidates may include additional pieces of information/documentation as they think fit.
