Health, Physical Education, and Sport Studies Minor
The Health, Physical Education, and Sports Studies Minor provides students with a multidisciplinary foundation in human health, physical education, and organization and administration in sports. Designed to complement a wide range of undergraduate majors, the minor equips students with practical knowledge and skills applicable to careers in education, public health, athletic administration, coaching, and wellness promotion.
Health, Physical Education, and Sport Studies Requirements (6 credits)
Elective Courses (12 credits)
Please see below for the minimum and maximum credits for each area. Students must complete at least 3 credits of electives at the 2000-level or higher.
Movement and Activity Area
Minimum of 3 credits, maximum of 5 credits
Health and Wellness Area
Sport Studies Area
Minimum of 3 credits
Students may complete an internship in Physical Education, Sports Management, or Digital Media Production to fulfill the requirements for this area.
Physical Education as Additional Classroom Teaching Certificate
Students who are interested in pursuing physical education may take courses that prepare them for adding the physical education certificate following graduation and after attaining their initial childhood or adolescence NYS certification.
In addition to the required childhood or adolescence certification courses students take at MSMC, interested students would have to take 12 credits (for a supplementary certificate) or 18 credits (for an initial certification) from the following (additional courses may be available via Acadeum):

These courses are recommended to help fulfill the “content core semester hours” required for the physical education certification.
These requirements are for those students who attain an initial certification in childhood or adolescent education and apply through the NYSED Individual Pathway for Additional Classroom Teaching Certificate.
NYSED will make the final determination on the application.
