ED 6701 APPLIED RESEARCH PRACTICUM IN LITERACY EMERGENT THROUGH FLUENT READERS AND WRITERS

This course is a reflective practicum experience designed as the culminating component of the literacy program for supporting learners in the emergent through fluent specific stages of literacy (grades preK-4). Master Teacher Candidates will connect research-supported instructional solutions to learners’ difficulties in literacy from the emergent to the fluent stages, building on the knowledge gained in previous courses as a foundation for understanding the basis for the difficulties. The practicum involves tutoring diverse learners with literacy needs, including native English speakers with disabilities and pupils who are Multilingual learners. The course will promote self-reflection through observing one’s own and colleagues’ tutoring practices for the purpose of analyzing and problem-solving case studies of experiencing challenges with literacy development. Master Teacher Candidates will learn about communicating assessment results to parents, caregivers, and school personnel.
