ED 6700 APPLIED RESEARCH PRACTICUM IN LITERACY FOR FLUENT TO DISCIPLINARY

This course is a reflective practicum experience designed as the culminating component of the literacy program for supporting learners in the fluent to disciplinary specific stages of literacy (grades 5-12). The emphasis is on connecting research-supported instructional strategies and approaches specifically tailored to address learners' literacy needs within disciplinary contexts, building on knowledge and skills developed in previous coursework. The practicum involves tutoring diverse learners who require support in disciplinary and critical literacy, including learners experiencing literacy challenges, learners with disabilities, and multilingual learners. The course fosters self-reflection through observing one's own and colleagues' literacy instruction, aimed at analyzing and addressing case studies involving learners who struggle with disciplinary literacy practices. Participants will also develop skills for effectively communicating literacy assessment outcomes and instructional recommendations to families, caregivers, and school personnel.
