Terms and Conditions

  1. The precise terms and conditions of every appointment to the faculty shall be stated in writing, be signed by both the President of the College and the faculty member, and be in possession of both before the appointment is consummated.
  2. With the exception of temporary appointments for specifically limited terms, all full-time appointments to the rank of assistant or higher are of two kinds: (1) probationary appointments, and (2) appointments with continuous tenure.
  3. All appointments to the rank of instructor are probationary appointments.
  4. Probationary appointments may be for one year or for other stated periods, subject to renewal.
  5. Written notice that a probationary appointment is not to be renewed shall be given to the faculty member at least three months before the end of his or her service in the period covered by the probationary appointment.
  6. Notice of the terms and conditions of a renewal of a probationary appointment will be given at least three months before the end of service in the period covered by the previous appointment.
  7. If a member of the faculty desires to terminate an existing appointment, or decline a renewal in the absence of notice of nonrenewal, they shall give notice not less than three months before the termination of their service to the College. A waiver of this requirement may be requested in case of hardship or in a situation where the faculty member would otherwise be denied substantial professional advancement.
