PSY 4230 PERSONAL GROWTH THROUGH FILM

“A picture is worth a thousand words.” The images we see in film today offer us a powerful tool for understanding ourselves, for learning, growing, and possibly finding solutions to our problems. The course explores the use of film as a professional tool for use in psychotherapy, counseling, human service work, or for individuals to use as a tool for their own personal growth or to enhance their lives. The prime focus of the course is to teach students how film/movies can be used to facilitate self-understanding, and to help develop action plans and possible solutions to the problems of living. The course additionally demonstrates how film can dramatize possible negative outcomes if dysfunctional patterns remain unchanged.
