Waiver Policy for Credits
The MBA curriculum consists of a maximum of 55 credits. The College allows a waiver of a maximum of 22 credits (18 for the Health Care Concentration).
-
The courses to be waived must have been completed in the last five years or be deemed sufficient by the Graduate Program Coordinator.
-
Any undergraduate courses taken at MSMC or elsewhere that are applied toward a waiver must have been completed with a grade of B or better, or must evidence sufficient competency to the Graduate Program Coordinator
-
The Graduate Program Coordinator and/or the chair of the School of Business will determine courses that are eligible for waiver.
-
Any student seeking "life experience" credit toward coursework in the MBA Program is limited to 6 credits (2 courses) of credit, in non-core courses, and must adhere to the following procedure:
- Review the Catalog, and determine which course(s) for which the student seeks the life experience credit;
- Create a portfolio in which the student lists the relevant work/life experience, complete with examples of the work product, details of the work/experience, dates, and the like. The student could include letters from supervisors detailing the work performed. The student would also include a writing (essay) explaining what the student took from the experience, how it relates to the course description of the course for which they are seeking credit, and an explanation of why they believe that experience should replace the course. For this, the student must describe in detail the work experience and specifically how it addresses the topic and material covered by the course. The experience must be at least commensurate with the course - meaning, for example, a job worked for 4 weeks, 40 hours a week would likely not be equivalent to an 8 week course on a specific topic; and
- Submit the portfolio to the MBA Coordinator and Chair of the School of Business for review and consideration.
