PHL 2210 MODERN TO CONTEMPORARY PHILOSOPHY

This course is a survey of some of the key philosophers and philosophical issues addressed from the modern period of philosophy (17th and 18th centuries) to the contemporary period. Philosophers examined may include René Descartes, Princess Elisabeth of Bohemia, John Locke, Margaret Cavendish, Immanuel Kant, J.S. Mill, John Dewey, Jean-Paul Sartre, and Simone de Beauvoir, as well as others. The primary focus will be on metaphysical and epistemological issues such as mind-body problems, empiricism, rationalism, skepticism, and the nature of happiness.
