GAM 3140 GAME-BASED LEARNING

This course provides a comprehensive look at the use of games as tools for learning. Drawing on work from education, psychology, communication, and the growing field of game studies, we will examine the history of gaming, contemporary research on gameplay and players, and review how researchers from different disciplines have conceptualized and investigated learning and playing. We will also address issues of gender, ethnicity, and culture that have been prominent in discussions about the impact of games. Students will be required at the end of the course to develop a comprehensive, developmentally appropriate game-based learning experience and/or design/market an educational game of their own.
