Chemistry, BS/MBA (4 + 1 Program)

The BS in Chemistry/MBA 4 + 1 Program prepares students with a strong background in Chemistry and graduate-level training in Business management and administration to expand opportunities for its graduates to work in a wide variety of fields of scientific, bio- and geochemical industry. The graduates will be qualified to contribute to the scientific fields as they grow into management positions and as business and investment professionals in supporting the provision of products, services, and research related to chemistry.

This program is designed for students interested in combining a business degree with their degree in science. In only five years, students will be able to complete all required courses for a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and a Master’s degree in Business Administration.

• Students may plan to enroll in the MBA program at the time that they make their undergraduate enrollment decision into the B.S. in Chemistry program, or they can choose this program after beginning the Chemistry degree.

• Students in the 4 + 1 combined program will not be required to submit a formal application for admission to the MBA program.

• Students in the 4 + 1 combined program will be notified of their progress toward the MBA program prior to completing 90 undergraduate credits.

• Admission to the MBA program will be contingent upon a GPA of 2.75 or higher maintained for 120 credits of the undergraduate program.

• Students will be notified of the completion of the foundational MBA courses once they are formally accepted into the MBA program.

Students in the 4 + 1 combined program will take all of the courses required for their degree in science in the first 4 years. Upon completion of the Required Undergraduate Courses (listed below), students can qualify for a maximum of 18 credits towards the MBA degree (Equivalent Foundational Course for MBA, listed below) by earning a minimum grade of ‘B’ in the required undergraduate courses. For MBA foundational courses that require a two-course sequence of undergraduate courses, an average grade of a ‘B’ or above is required. Courses marked with a * can be taken as part of the General Education requirement or are already required for the science degree.

MTH 2070  and MTH 2510 can be taken as part of the General Education requirement or are already required for the science degree.

A student cannot begin their MBA graduate studies until they have completed their undergraduate Bachelors studies and have been awarded their undergraduate degree.
