NUR 3051 MENTAL HEALTH NURSING

Nursing care of clients with psychosocial problems is the focus of this course. Psychiatric disorders and their impact on the individual, families, and society will be presented. The promotion of wellness for individuals with mental health challenges will be prioritized. The provision of supportive, holistic treatment by the nurse in working with client’s diagnosed with a mental illness will be discussed. Emphasis is on identifying the social determinants of health when assessing and applying evidenced-based interventions and treatment modalities for the client diagnosed with a mental illness. Application of the nursing process and standards of care are the frameworks for clinical decision making.
