ED 5301 K-CULTURE IMMERSION
This course includes a series of required pre-trip seminars that prepare you academically and culturally before departure. Seminar topics align with course assignments and include: Korean educational systems and pedagogy (for school visits and site reports), historical and cultural foundations with a focus on Gyeongju (for reflection journals and reports), modern cultural institutions and innovations in Seoul (for site reports), cross-cultural communication and etiquette (for the Cross-Cultural Communication Project), basic Korean phrases and cultural norms, safety and travel logistics, field-note and site-report writing, reflective journaling strategies, and presentation planning for the final reflection. Following the pre-trip preparation, students will participate in an intensive 14-day study abroad experience that provides immersive exposure to Korean culture, educational practices, and societal structures. Participants will travel through key regions such as Daegu, Gyeongju, Busan, and Seoul, engaging with historical sites, modern institutions, and educational settings. The program emphasizes experiential learning through cultural workshops, school visits, museum explorations, and direct interaction with Korean students and educators.
