HIS 4113 COAL, CASH, IRON: HISTORY OF THE INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION
The Industrial Revolution was one of the most transformative eras in human history, as steam power and factor labor replaced the handicraft and artisanal system that had been in place for centuries in Europe. New technologies accelerated the pace of industrial, social, and political change. While wealth increased dramatically, it did so unevenly. This course examines these extraordinary developments in Britain and America from the first Industrial Revolution through the second, and explores the impact of these changes on the working class.
