SOC 2450 SOCIOLOGY OF THE FAMILY

This course encourages students to examine "family" in a new way: as a social institution, which has the goal of meeting a variety of human needs, using a variety of structures. The diversity of family structures across time and space and social category will be presented and related to larger social forces. Particular attention will be paid to changes in the definition and experience of family and to the relationships between family and social inequality.
