Cybersecurity, BS

Continuously increasing cyber-attacks and threats have become a focal point of headlines around the world with hackers exploiting stolen data from government, companies, schools, hospitals and individuals. This has led to growing demands for a skilled cybersecurity workforce in the United States. Skilled professionals capable of preventing and recovering from cybersecurity breaches will be in high demand in the foreseeable future. This major is designed to meet the current demand of cybersecurity professionals by providing students with the necessary foundations in computing, mathematics, criminology and security including skills to master the following learning outcomes:

  • LO1: Identify and describe cybersecurity risks, threats and defenses.

  • LO2: Create, test, analyze computing systems and mitigate security vulnerabilities in software applications, operating systems and computer networks. 

  • LO3: Implement mathematical algorithms behind encryption and decryption techniques used in computing.

  • LO4: Define and investigate crimes committed using digital devices while applying professional and legal norms of computing.     
  • LO5: Communicate effectively in a variety of professional contexts.     
  • LO6: Function effectively as a member or leader of a team engaged in activities appropriate to the program's discipline. 

Cybersecurity Requirements

The Cybersecurity major consists of thirty-nine (39) general education credits, fifty-one (51) major credits, twelve (12) Computer Science credits, three (3) Criminology credits, nine (9) Mathematics credits, and twelve (12) free electives.
