Humanities at Work, BA

To study the Humanities involves students in the exploration, investigation, understanding, appreciation and application of the various forms of uniquely human expression. The Arts, English, History, Languages, Philosophy, and Religious Studies, and other subjects that study the depths of human culture, represent the humanities at Mount Saint Mary College. The Humanities at Work major allows for an inter- and cross-disciplinary approach to realizing the essential capabilities (skills) necessary to meet the demands of the 21^st century workforce. Students have maximum choice as they progress through six Theme Areas:

1. Analytical and Critical Thinking,

2. Creative and Imaginative Thinking,

3. Collaborative Problem Solving,

4. Effective Communication,

5. Emotional and Moral Intelligence, and

6. Global Consciousness. 

An internship component offers valuable hands-on career preparation, and the Interdisciplinary Capstone Seminar asks students to “synthesize” all six Theme Areas and career components into one project that demonstrates how their knowledge and skills come together in a powerful career strategy.
