ED 5042 APPLIED RESEARCH IN BEHAVIOR MANAGEMENT
This course is focused on understanding the relationship between learning processes, motivation, communication, and classroom management, with application of that understanding to stimulate and sustain pupil interest, cooperation, and achievement and to promote positive social interaction. Emphasis will be on applied behavior analysis. Cognitive approaches to self-management will also be considered. Students are required to design, implement, and evaluate a behavior management program which will include the collection and review of data to monitor pupil progress and make decisions. Students will understand the nature and purpose of a functional behavioral assessment and behavior plan for an IEP. Training in school violence prevention in accordance with state regulations will be conducted for at least two hours. Students will earn a grade of at least B in this course to be eligible for student teaching or required practicum. Field work is required
