HON 3500 HONORS: PROBLEM OF EVIL: THE HOLOCAUST
This class will give you a detailed insight into the historical creation of the Holocaust. We will try to come to terms with questions such as: Where does Anti-Semitism have its roots? What made the Holocaust possible? How did the perpetrators and bystanders defend systematic genocide? How does one conceptualize evil? Further, we will explore how the use of the term “Holocaust” affects our present conception of this nightmare of humanity. Our literary and historical explorations will be complemented by films and psychological inquiries. In addition, we will have experts from various disciplines to engage students in the subject matter. From these, we shall thus see how the lessons should be relegated neither to history nor to geography, but that the roots and effects reside in ourselves. Prerequisites: Junior/ Senior Honors Program Students or permission of the honors coordinator.
